It's been one week without facebook... [Mar. 3rd, 2009|06:09 pm]

From AFP and Yahoo News:

"Young male lizards in South Africa imitate females to fool aggressive older males into leaving them alone, in an example of transvestism in the natural world, researchers have found."

Weirdos or Executive Transvestites?  That is the question.

Just a couple of thoughts... [Aug. 22nd, 2008|11:55 pm]

Well, I totally nailed Obama's Veepstakes winner.  Senator Barack Obama has chosen longtime Senator Joseph Biden to be his running mate.  I love the guy.

That being said, look at the poll numbers.  It is a tight race.  In a way, it reminds me of the 1980 race for President.  Reagan and Carter remained close until Reagan asked, "are you better off now than you were four years ago".  The result was one of the greatest electoral victories in American History.

Consequently, the Reagan years represent the last political reallignment.  Our nation pushed toward conservative values, ideals, and toward much needed optimism.  Rehnquist became Chief Justice on a court that leans conservative to this day.  After decades of Democratic control of the House and Senate, in 1994, Republicans gained control of both houses in what can be characterized as nothing short of a revolution.

Where are we now?  Twenty-eight years, six Presidential, and thirteen Congressional election cycles later, the race is deceivingly tight.  McCain is making a race out of what was expected to be a five month victory tour for Obama.

Those who I have asked have said that this race will come down to content, that this race will be about substance.  If that's the case, then this is the race between the wet-earred puppy, and, well, John McCain.

But what about the ground game?  Obama has come to be known for his ability to "rally the troops".  Look at his success in the caucuses earlier this spring.  What it shows is that his supporters represent a greater movement in an election season that has yet to be defined.  When it comes down to battleground states in November, its the ground game that will win the election.  Obama is far superior.

When thinking about McCain acting as a conservative cheerleader this fall, I slap myself in the forehead.  First off, he is a septuagenarian.  Secondly, he has been the liberal thorn in the side of the Bush Administration.  Perhaps most ironically, he has still been painted as the vital new face of the Bush Administration, representing a third-term.

It is an election season that has yet to be defined.  Just the same, Obama has yet to be defined.  He is thought to be somewhere between liberal, radical, hippie, and messiah.  He lacks definition because he is such a novelty.

Where will it end up?  Well, if you look at poll numbers, the best McCain can do is a narrow victory in the electoral college.  If you look at the poll numbers, the best Republicans can do in the Senate is to hold serve.  This is the best case scenario.

Where does that leave us?  If the Dems win 17 or so of the possible 35 races, then they have a filibuster-proof Senate, with a leader, Harry Reid, who will have tremendous influence over Washington politics.  If the Dems win 12 of 35, then they will still retain a 55-45 majority.  If the Dems lose 28 of the 35 races, then the Senate will change hands; thats not happening.

Reallignment?  If the Democrats take those extra five seats from Republicans, get 60 votes in the Senate, and the Presidency, then we are in political reallignment.  In the ebb and flow of American politics, the last two reallignments that involved a Democratic president and a filibuster-proof Senate yielded the New Deal and Great Society.

An Obama Presidency would yield Socialism.  An Obama Presidency would yield more power in the hands of government.  Just as the New Deal defined the era after the Depression, and as the War on Poverty defines LBJ, a new National Health Care system would define Obama's place in history.

I've said since 2006 that we are in political reallignment.  This election is the only way to validate that.

Here's something to chew on:

"You know why they call it birth control? Because it's meant to stop a birth from happening nine months later. We know when life begins. Everyone who ever bought a pack of condoms knows when life begins".

God Bless.

A few thoughts [Mar. 30th, 2008|10:31 pm]
I am in the middle of two essays and needless to say, I am distracted.

While there may only be one person who reads this, I still feel the need to share my feelings.  I have been deeply moved by the death of Mr. Bob Schabowski and have taken it upon myself to spread the word.  In doing so, I have heard the feelings of countless individuals and how they were affected by Mr. Bob.  Culminating with the funeral service on Sunday, I can say that I am nothing short of moved by the character that this man possessed.  You can go  through his family's words, the words of students, and the words of friends to see the prevailing theme of morality within this man.  This is what touches me most.

The thought always pops into my mind, and while I'm currently thinking aloud, I think it is fair to say that we need to memorialize Mr. Bob.  However, what is the proper way in which to do this?  Certainly we could name a wing of a building after him, or build a big statue for him, or even make a plaque for him and place it under a tree, but does this truly fit HIS character?  When listening to eulogy after eulogy, it made itself clear the extent to which Mr. Bob's humility went.  His humor was self-depricating, his faith was God-fearing, and his thoughts of himself were simply put, humble.  There is no other way to describe it.

I'd like to make a resolution.  My memorial to Mr. Bob is to hold what he held dear, near to my heart.  I realize that over time I have become vulgar, obnoxious, and at times, mean.  While I have big goals in life, on days like today, I see that the little things matter the most.  Mr. Bob made a difference in many people's lives and while he tried only to make a small difference, he accomplished not a collective big difference, but a collective HUGE difference.

Its amazing to see the difference that one man made.

Mr. Bob [Mar. 26th, 2008|01:46 pm]
If you haven't heard already, Mr. Bob Schabowski has died.  It was a long tough road with Glia Blastoma, but his suffering is over.  We all knew him, and he knew all of us.  That is what will be missed the most.

Lent: Day 334 [Jan. 28th, 2008|01:38 pm]

My family.  This is what keeps me up at night.  I worry about what the future holds for the little ones.  All I can say on the subject is that I feel the unique calling because I represent the bridge between two generations.

I don't think any of us knows the true meaning of happiness simply because of all the blessings we have.  I'll let you figure out if this is you or not.

Shamrock Shakes are approaching.  When they come, there is no excuse for unhappiness in this world.

In Iran, we don't have homosexuals like in your country.  In Iran, we do not have that phenomenon and I don't know who's told you that we have it.  We don't want a nuclear bombs.  We just want a peaceful nuclear weapons program.  And yea, the holocaust, it didn't exist.

Lent: Day 53 [Apr. 12th, 2007|10:24 am]
I've been having a lot of dreams lately.  I really should record them.  The latest one involves a room, filled with pictures of Drake, like wallpaper or something.  Then Evan came over and made a pizza, and was pissed off for whatever reason.  Then Kathleen came over.  She was loud.  Then she left.  That is all I can recall as of this moment.

SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER's a coming....WOOOOOOOOOO!

The End of an Era [Jan. 23rd, 2007|08:42 am]
"Dear Valued Associate:

The decision to close a store is never an easy one, particularly because of the loss of dedicated and hard working employees.  It is with regret, then, that I must inform you that following a thorough business analysis, we have decided to permanently close the Jewel-Osco store located at 6525 S. 27th Street, Franklin, Wisconsin, 53132, in the near future.  We hope to accomplish this closing with the least possible disruption to the lives of our valued emplyees and the community.

We anticipate that the closure and resulting layoffs of employees at this location will begin on March 23, 2007. Your position does not entail bumping rights, meaning you do not have the right to displace another employee from his or her job.

We will be meeting with you and other affected employees in the near future to provide emplyment information and guidance in an effort to ease this transition, and will do all that we can to assist you during this difficult time.

Please direct any questions to Linda Spiwak, Human Resources Manager, North Area at ---.---.----.

Sincerely,

Tim Corry
Vice President, Human Resources

Here's a quick update for everyone! [Jan. 15th, 2007|11:41 pm]
I have been off of school for over a month now, and tomorrow, I go back. I look forward to a new semester, and new opportunities.

In the past month I have been working full-time at Jewel-Osco. It hasn't been much of a break. Jewel-Osco is for sale, and rumor has it that we are going to shut down. I, as ironic as it may seem, am not buying into the gossip. I'm getting paid to do something, and damnit, I'm going to do it.

It was nice to see all the friends from college, and the high school for that matter. Now it's time to work for summer. I am counting down the days, weeks, and months until we are all together once more.

OK. Anyone interested in sledding tomorrow night (1/16/07)?

Yours in snow,

JI

(no subject) [Dec. 16th, 2006|04:37 am]
I went to Half-Priced Books. I love it there. I love books. Now I just need to read them.

I bought myself an Ariel Sharon autobiography entitled "Warrior". It was a shame to see him leave his fellow members of Kadima hanging. Oh well, PVS is ok with me, not ok with social liberals.

I work 40 hours next week. When the time comes for me to be paid, I will definitely go ahead and celebrate Capitalism. This is all barring my unforeseen demise.

Christmastime is just around the corner. I cannot wait to see family and friends again.

The End

DER [Nov. 27th, 2006|07:38 pm]
The drama has to stop. It is literally tearing down relationships that have been well-established for years now. Change is inevitable. Deal with it. We've dealt with it in the past and we will once more.
